Chair is a volunteer position:
• Be available for phone calls, emails and questions in respect to anything to do with the poppy campaign.
• Ensure all team leads are in place for the new campaign year.
• Setup meetings at the end of August or beginning of September to start campaign year.
• Inventory to be completed at end of campaign and reported to command. Command will email in middle of July regarding the upcoming order.
• Co chair and Chair will use inventory sheet and the inventory to determine the new order. Complete the order form and email back to Command.
• Read the Poppy Manual that is updated yearly to ensure the duties and expectations for all involved with the poppy campaign ( VERY IMPORTANT)
• Attend Poppy Committee meetings six times a year. These meetings are held at Command Office with all legion reps in Calgary area, usually the second Tuesday of the month.
• Attend a Spring and Fall Rally which is held by our District 5 Commander.
• Attend Executive Meetings at Legion once a month. The Poppy Chairperson is appointed by the President of the Legion.
• Book rooms early with Bookings Team for any meetings that are required before during and after the campaign. Ensure Poster and Literary Team Lead has an area large enough for the organizing of the entries and judging. (February)
• Organize a Volunteer Thank You evening (Superstore, Macleod Trail Coop have previously donated all food.)
• Expenses incurred requiring refunds or reimbursement must be submitted by Chairperson as outlined in the Poppy Manual.
During the campaign:
• Answer all phone calls and emails any correspondence and delegate as required.
• Make sure every team has supplies, resources and volunteers.
• Keep in touch with command when necessary via email
• Be available to take over any position if needed.
ie: if a volunteer is sick, find a replacement or be that replacement.
• Help find school speakers when schools request (Speakers are very few.)
• Help order cadets lunches for the malls during the campaign. The liaisons for each cadet group will keep in touch (see list of cadet leaders on laptop or filing cabinet.)
• Volunteers are required to deliver supplies down from upstairs, both, at end of campaign and beginning. Last week after campaign supplies must be organized and ready for inventory count.
The volunteer position of the Chairperson/CoChair is rewarding because of what the final outcome is. OPEN FOR 2026
